Audra Stokes

May 12, 1952 — February 26, 2013

Audra Jean Stokes, 61, of Paducah, left this earth to assure her place with our Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Feb 26 at 11:26 a.m., surrounded by family.

Jean was a selfless person who spent countless hours helping others and personified the heart of Christ. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed quiet reading time, shopping, spending time with her family, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandkids who affectionately called her "MeMe".

Jean was a member of Rosary Chapel and attended Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church. She graduated Draughon's Business College and afterwards assumed a 42 year career with the United States Enrichment Corporation, where she formed many lifelong friendships.

She is survived by her husband of 26 years, Weldon Stokes; two sons, James Jernigan (Evette) of Paducah and Antonio Stokes (Carmen) of Farmington Hills, MI; one daughter, Tracie Mathews (Larry) of Smyrna, TN; seven grandchildren Austin Mayes, Jaylen and Alexis Jernigan of Paducah, KY, Aniyah and Eden Stokes of Farmington Hills, MI.; Kaleb and Kristian Mathews of Smyrna, TN; three sisters Beulah Morris and Yvonne Crowdus both of Paducah and Pam Smith of Columbia, SC; one brother, Joseph Smith Jr. of Paducah; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Bertha Mae Tharpe Smith and one sister Barbara Smith.

Services will be at 1p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin R. Cole Sr. officiating. Entombment will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, 3140 Parisa Drive, Paducah, KY 42001.
