Carlos T. Newman, 86, of Paducah died Wednesday at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad from 1941 to 1953. His employment was interrupted in 1942 for three and a half years of military service. Carlos served two years in the 78th Infantry Division and one and a half years in the 12th Air Force. In 1953 he was employed by the Tennessee Valley Authority at Shawnee Fossil Plant and had continuous service until his retirement in 1983.
Carlos was a member of the Twelve Oaks Baptist Church, formerly Twelfth Street Baptist Church, and a member of Paducah Masonic Lodge No. 127 F&AM. He was a very avid artist and cartoonist. His cartoons were printed in the Sun-Democrat newspaper, which is now The Paducah Sun.
He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Null and husband Dick of Marion, Ill., and Sheila Feig and husband Joe of Paducah; four granddaughters, Shelley Null of Marion, Ill., Carrie Marks of Marion, Ill., Sarah Beth Bone of Nevada, Mo., and Valerie Lucas of Louisville; and six great-grandchildren, Levi Lucas, Nate Lucas, Emily Marks, Bradley Marks, Carter Bone and Elliott Bone.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Manor Ragland Newman; one sister, Neta Earle Goheen; and one brother, Robert D. Newman. His parents were Otha Dewey and Lillie Maude Rudolph Newman.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Louis Brinker officiating. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
