Funeral services for Coy Crafton Stacey Jr., 82, of Paducah will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 22, 2008, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Dr. Gregory Waldrop will officiate. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Mr. Stacey died at 7:28 p.m. Saturday at Lourdes hospital.
He was born March 21, 1925 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and held both a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the University of Mississippi.
He began his career in 1950 with Ford Motor Company in Memphis. In 1954, he moved back to Paducah and joined his family in the former Stacey's Restaurant, a business started by his father in 1929. He was a former owner of Draughon's Business College, a former owner and trustee of Maplelawn Park Cemetery, and the general partner and general manager of Bluegrass Downs. After retirement, he received his real estate license and worked for Century 21 Service Realty, Inc.
He was a member of the Fountain Avenue Methodist Church, a charter member of the Paducah Optimist Club, a member of the Miles Meredith Chapter of the American Legion, a former board member of Paducah Community College, and served on the Brooks Stadium Commission. He helped organize the Khoury League Baseball program in Paducah and coached baseball teams in numerous leagues, including the Post 31 American Legion baseball team. He was chairman of fundraising for the American Legion baseball program for 22 years. He was also a regional scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Virginia Ruth McClain Stacey; two sons, Charles "Spike" Stacey and wife, Marcia, of Paducah and Richard "Dick" Stacey and wife, Lydia, of Nashville, Tenn.; one brother, E.K. "Bub" Stacey of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren, Chris Stacey of Nashville, Dylan Stacey of Lexington, and Stephanie Stacey of Paducah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Crafton Stacey Sr. and Bertha D. Knox Stacey.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. today at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
