David Garland Gibbs, 88, of the Ragland community, died Monday at Western Baptist Hospital.
David was a devoted member of the Ragland community where he was born and raised. He inherited the Crutcher Family Farm, which was established in the late 1800s, and he farmed the land for many years. In addition, he owned and operated a sawmill, "Thick and Thin Lumber" for over 60 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #707 in Grahamville and was a lifetime member of New Liberty United Methodist Church in Kevil.
Surviving are his two daughters, Georgia (Roger) Freeman of Paducah and Denise (Jim) Bronaugh of Franklin, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Stacie Prigge of Lexington, David Beyer of Paducah, Jennifer (Kevin) Meacham of Hopkinsville, Sarah Beyer of Louisville, Abby Bronaugh and Jessie Bronaugh, both of Franklin, Tenn.; and six great-grandchildren, Chandler, Carsyn and Caden Prigge, all of Lexington, and Gracey, Griffen and Garrison Meacham, all of Hopkinsville.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Johnnie Daniel (Belcher) Gibbs; a daughter, Cheryl Beyer; and a great-grandson, Turner Meacham. His parents were Wright and Margie Crutcher Gibbs.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Scott Speight and Joel Jackson officiating. Entombment will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday after 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
