SMITHLAND, Ky. - David R. "Goober" Kelser, 61, of Smithland passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Lourdes hospital.
He was of the Catholic Faith, a retired Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War, where he was awarded a National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 device, 1 O/S Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with Rifle Bar (M-14), Good Conduct Medal and served as Honor Guard and Color Guard.
He was a member of V.F.W. Post #1191 Paducah, D.A.V. Chapter 7 KY., V.V.A. Chapter 37, AMVETS Post #132 Metropolis, Ill., and former member of the Paducah Breakfast Lions Club.
Mr. Kelser is survived by a son, David Slaughter of Smithland, Ky.; five sisters, Diane Bryant of Paducah, Jewell Kelser of Dallas, Texas, Norma Wright of Smithland, Ky., Ruth Ann Manning of Bowling Green, Ky., and Linda Cruse of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Howard E. Kelser, and stepmother, Mildred Kelser; mother, Mary E. Clark House; and stepfather, Bob House.
Funeral Services for David R. "Goober" Kelser will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Brian Robey officiating.
Burial with full Military Honors will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
