Dr. Andrew White Morton
Graveside Memorial Services for Dr. Andrew White Morton, 87, of Paducah, Ky., will be at Maplelawn Cemetery on Monday, June 8, 2009, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Rita Story officiating.
Dr. Morton died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Western Baptist Hospital.
He was born in Madisonville, Ky., on Aug. 24, 1921, to the late Clifford M.H. Morton Sr. and Myrtle White Morton. He graduated from Central High School in Louisville, Ky., the University of Louisville, Louisville Municipal College (which was a division of the University of Louisville), Louisville, Ky., and in 1945 received his D.D.S. at Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry in Nashville, Tenn.
Dr. Morton served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps from 1943 to 1945. He was instructor at Meharry Medical School from 1945-1946. He first established private dental practice in Paducah from 1946-1949. In 1949-1951 he served as captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Ft. Riley, Kan., and was later sent to Pusan, Korea. Upon his return to Paducah in 1951, he established his practice and retired after 50 years of service on Dec. 31, 1995.
While at Meharry Medical College, he met and married the love of his life and life partner of sixty-three years. They had two lovely children who preceded them in death: Lucia Diane Moorman and Clifford Morton.
He was a member of Burks Chapel A.M.E. Church, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity; served on the Board of Regents at Kentucky State University and on numerous boards and organizations. He was a great sportsman and golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Florence B. Morton; two grandchildren, Jessica Diane Moorman of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Clifford Harrison Morton III of Lexington, Ky.; and two sisters, Lois Williams and Gloria F. Stewart of Chicago, Ill.
