Earl Wayne Ligon, 70, of Paducah left to be with the Lord and his wife Carol, on June 8, 2011.
Even at age 70, Earl continued to work as the owner of Ligon Repair Service and Ligon Custom Sweeping, which were established in 1958 by he and his father, Edgar Ligon, with services evolving from heating and air conditioning to auto body work and commercial parking lot sweeping. But Earl was most well-known for his motorcycle sales and repair.
Over the years Earl and his dad, before his death in 1987, held dealerships in Harley-Davidson, BMW, Indian, Suzuki, and Yamaha motorcycles. When the mopeds and scooters gained popularity in the 80s, he added dealerships such as Tomos, Vespa, and Kasea. His repair business was the star of his show. As an expert mechanic, the motorcycle, 4-wheeler, and moped owners in the four-state area knew that if no one else could fix it, Mr. Ligon could. And if you didn't need anything fixed, there was always a seat and a cold soda waiting for some company and some conversation.
People who knew Earl over the years will remember him as a regular camper and rider at Turkey Creek in LBL, where he taught his children to ride off-road bikes and always carried extra parts to help his friends keep their bikes running too.
Earl is a 1958 graduate of Lone Oak High School and is a Kentucky Colonel. Friends who knew Earl around graduation time might remember his customized 1958 Black Chevy Impala which he bragged was so fast he couldn't be beat as he drag raced down Broadway the wrong direction.
Earl leaves behind a family who cherished him. He is survived by a son, Troy Wayne Ligon of Tampa, FL; two daughters, Terri Sue Ligon of Paducah and Tracy Renee (Ligon) Rudolph of Paducah; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several cousins; his dog Megan; and many, many beloved friends. He was preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Carol Sue (James) Ligon; his parents, Edgar and Lindell Ligon; a son, Todd Alan Ligon; and a daughter, Tina Rogers.
Earl attended Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Paducah, KY where he attended his last service on June 5th. Earl's friends may call, on two wheels or four, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah on Alben Barkley Drive after 1 pm Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm Sunday with Pastor Chris Fleming officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
