Ella Thomas (Ferguson) Averitt, 94, of Paducah died Tuesday at Lourdes hospital.
Ella was born July 26, 1917, in Golden Pond, Ky., to the late William Percy and Onnie Lee Ferguson. After moving to Paducah, Ella worked part time at Grant's, was cafeteria manager at Clark School and retired as cafeteria manager at Paducah Tilghman High School. She was a longtime member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Carl Ray Averitt Jr. of Paducah and Dr. William Earl Averitt and wife, Dr. Frances Lapp Averitt of Winchester, Va.; her nephew, Lynn Ferguson and wife, Wanda of Paducah; her stepdaughter-in-law, Necia Averitt of Paducah; and her stepdaughter, Judy Hall and husband, David of Paducah.
Preceding her in death were her first husband, Carl Ray Averitt Sr.; her second husband, Leland Averitt; her stepson, Herbert Averitt; two sisters, Thelma Jones and Alma Kloss; her brother, Jewell Ferguson; her nephew, J.W. Jones; brothers-in-law, Boyd Jones and the Rev. John Kloss; and sister-in-law, Mary Ferguson.
The family would like to give a well deserved and heartfelt thank you to Southgate Health Care Center, Lourdes hospital, Lourdes Hospice and many loyal friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Maplelawn Park Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Wallace officiating. There will be no visitation. Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
