Freddy J. Mills, 79, of Paducah passed away Sunday, February, 5, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Mills was of the Baptist faith and attended Broadway Baptist Church. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and he was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a volunteer coach with the Khoury League of Paducah and coached little league football. He was a sales manager with Kentucky Central Insurance. In 1949 he was on the first football team to ever play at The Memorial Stadium in Mayfield. (Mayfield vs. Madisonville)
He is survived by his wife, Sue Hall Mills; his sons, Freddy J. "Chip" Mills II and wife Tania of Hallandale Beach Fla., Michael S. Sowash and wife Janet of Paducah, Robbie S. Sowash and wife Anita of Atlanta, Ga., Christopher S. Cartwright and wife Mindy of Paducah; daughter, Sheryl Balisteri and husband Chris of Buffalo N.Y.; one sister, Karen Coleman of Paducah; one brother, W.J. Mills of Paducah; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Joyce Lewis, and one brother, Ernest J. Mills. His parents were Curtis and Hilda M. Woodson Mills.
A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Paul Hatcher and the Rev. Steve Gorham officiating. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until service time of 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
