Funeral services for George D. Wiggins Jr., 70, of Paducah will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Dr. E. Lee James officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery in Paducah.
Mr. Wiggins was born on February 4, 1938 in Paducah to George D. and Eula Mae Scholet Wiggins.
He retired from the Paducah Fire Department in 1988 after 25 years of service. He served his country in the Army Reserves. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was President of the Firefighter, Policeman and Widows Club; President of Aim/Unite No. 22; Vice-President of AFL-CIO Retiree Club; Vice-President of the Alliance for Retired Americans, Paducah Chapter; and a member of the Woodmen of the World. He was a Mason for 45 years and was a member of the Symsonia Masonic Lodge No. 917; and a 45 year member of the Eastern Star Clara Henrich Chapter No. 424. He was a Duke of Paducah and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Martha L. Williams Wiggins; children, Jesse Wiggins of Paducah, Keith Byers and wife Debbie of Paducah, Jeff Wiggins and wife Debbi of Paducah, Georganna Davenport and husband Dwight of Paducah. Brother, Lonnie Wiggins of Paducah; sister, Mary White of Mattoon, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Catharine Lucille Wiggins; brothers, Richard Wiggins, Earnest Wiggins and Archie Wiggins; sisters, Hazel Blair, Lorine Willard, Katherine Lain and Ethel Rhodes.
Visitation with the family will be at 5 p.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at the funeral home with Masonic Rights being held at 7 p.m.
