Glenda Ann Thomas Ware, 71, of Paducah died at 1:32 p.m. Wednesday at Western Baptist Hospital.
She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and retired as a supervisor in housekeeping at Western Baptist Hospital after 23 years of service. She was a member of the Church of the Living God CWFF, where she served on the church anniversary, pastor's aide and benevolent committees and the missionary board. She was a choir member and a past First Lady.
Surviving are four daughters, Pacquita Ann Barnette, Carmen Gaines, Alvita Jones and Emily S. Travis, all of Paducah; two sons, Anthony Thomas and Rev. James A. Ware Jr., both of Paducah; two sisters, Carolyn J. Barbour of Louisville and Martha Sue Nicholson of Springfield, Tenn.; four brothers, Robert Thomas and Phillip Thomas, both of Aurora, Colo., George Thomas of Knoxville, Tenn., and Bobby M. Thomas of Hyattsville, Md.; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three aunts; one uncle; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ira James Thomas and Elnora Walker Thomas; her husband, Rev. James Alvin Ware Sr.; one grandson; one brother; and one sister.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. James H. Vinson and Elvin Woodruff officiating. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
