He was a member of Southland Baptist Temple.
Surviving are one brother, Kevin Cates of Smithland; one niece; one great-niece; and one great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Margaret Cates.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Maplelawn Memorial Gardens.
