James Albert Shaw, 83, of Paducah died at 12:47 p.m. Thursday at Lourdes hospital.
Mr. Shaw was a member of St. John AME Church, where he served as past steward, trustee and sang in the choir. He was a graduate of West Kentucky State Vocational School and received certification in management from Paducah Community College. He was employed with the City of Paducah in the City Refuse Department for 35 years and retired as a director of refuse. He also was employed for 26 years with Rolling Hills Country Club and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are six daughters, Yolanda Patterson of Upper Marlboro, Md., Sondra Shaw-McGrew of Dallas, Anitha Davis of Metropolis, Ill., and Deborah Shaw, Brenda Cooper and Glenda Shaw, all of Paducah; one brother, Cletus Shaw of Toledo, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Dean Kizer Shaw; one son, Gregory Shaw; his stepmother, Louella Shaw; one granddaughter; two sisters; and one brother. His parents were Lawrences Shaw and George Wilson Foree.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Paducah with the Revs. Alfred Anderson and Kelvin D. Robinson officiating. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery with military rites.
The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
