Funeral services for John Day Jr., 75, of Paducah will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Dr. E. Lee James will officiate. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
He died January 12, 2010, at Lourdes hospital.
John was born in Carlisle County on October 14, 1934, to the late Johnnie Day Sr. and Willie Hester Cope Day. He was affectionately known as "Junior" by his seven siblings. John served in the U.S. Army, retired after 27 years as a life insurance agent from Life of Georgia, and was a member of Bellview Baptist Church.
John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Wenna Mae Atherton Day; a son, Kevin Lee Day of Cunningham; a daughter, Katheryn Renee Keenan and husband, Kelly, of Bowling Green, Ky.; two grandchildren, Emily and Kristopher Keenan; four siblings, Dorothy (Matt) Phillips of Chicago, Edna Marzano of Morton Grove, Ill., Louise (Don) Novack of Bitely, Mich., and Cecil (Peggy) Day of Mayfield; and several nieces and nephews, including Penny (Doug) Cooper, Lauri (Bobby) Ezell and Todd (Liz) Day.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Keith Dewayne Day; two sisters, Ola Thorpe and Allene Rhine; and a brother, Alvin Day.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
