Joseph Squallace Jr

February 7, 1942 — September 13, 2010

The son of Joseph A. Squallace Sr. and Theresa Ferrucci, he grew up in Rome, N.Y., and Schenectady, N.Y., and was active in school sports, scouts and was an active member of St. John's Parish in Rome, N.Y. After graduating from Rome Free Academy, Joseph chose Murray State University in Murray, Ky., to obtain a Master's Degree in Secondary Education and embarked on a career dedicated to coaching and teaching. He was key in his contributions to Reidland's football team and served as a mentor to his players and students. He moved to Liverpool, N.Y., in 1974 where he accepted a position as an instructor for Health Education. He continued his studies at Sunny Oswego and was awarded a Certificate of Educational Administration. While in Liverpool, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and being an avid NY Yankees fan. Soon after his retirement, he relocated back to Reidland, Ky., where he was a volunteer coaching consultant for the Reidland Football Program and an active member of St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church. He was known to his friends and family in Rome as " Homerun", in Schenectady as "A Man's Man," in Liverpool as "GI Joe", and in Reidland "Little Giant or Coach Squallace." He was a Veteran of the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Dianne F. Squallace, whom he met while attending Murray State and one daughter, Jody Lynn Squallace of Moncks Corner, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Funeral Mass will be held at noon Thursday, September 16, 2010, at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church with the Father Brian Roby officiating. Entombment will follow in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Friends may visit the family from 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and from 10:00 until 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Keeling Family Funeral Home at 2410 Jackson Street in Paducah, Ky. A Prayer Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers family request memorials be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
