Larry C. Helm, 76, of West Paducah passed away at 12:04 a.m. Thursday, March 20, 2008, at Western Baptist Hospital. He served in the United States Army for over 22 years before retiring. His military service includes both the Vietnam and the Korean Conflicts, earning him the Distinguished Soldier Medal among others. Mr. Helm was of the Methodist faith, a lifetime member of the VFW and retired from the Local #181. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Wanda Helm; his children, Pam Zimmerman and husband Ray of Cape Coral, Fla., Donald Summers and wife Virginia of Kuttawa, Kathie Carman and husband Ronnie of Paducah, Diane Summers of Denison, Texas and Sheila Merritt and husband Scott of Dallas; his grandchildren, Renee Watson of Scottsburg, Ind., Nicole Rockwell and Raymond Zimmerman III, both of Cape Coral, Amy Douglas, Teresa Golden, Michael Golden and Jennifer Hagerman, all of Paducah, and Jace Summers of Denison; and his great-grandchildren, Courtney Golden, Meagan Golden, Alec Vaughn, Cheyenne Holmes, Gabriel Vaughn, Emily Hagerman, Hillary Hagerman, Hunter Day, Tori Day and Cassandra Douglas, all of Paducah, Brooklynn Rockwell and Niah Rockwell, both of Cape Coral, Savannah Watson of Scottsburg, Tyler Clark of Owensboro and Auran Summers of Denison.
He was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Helm; mother, Thelma Helm; sister, Betty Turner; brother, James Warren Helm; and a grandson, Donald Ray Summers.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2008, at Lindsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard Beck officiating.
Friends may call after 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
