Lettie Lee Cobb McCorry, age 87, of Paducah passed away on Wednesday March 25, 2015, 3:10 p.m at her residence.
She was a former member of Ninth Street Tabernacle Ministries and attended Oakalone Christian Church.
Lettie was a 1947 graduate from West Kentucky Vocational School in Cosmetology. She returned to West Kentucky on several occasions and received certificates in more than 8 subjects including Master Barber, Master Taylor and Master Clerk. Lettie was one of the founding members of the West Kentucky Vocational Alumni Association.
Her father, the late A.A. Cobb, set her up on her own beauty shop that she operated as "Let's Beauty Shoppe" for more than 30 years. Spanning an entrepreneurial career of over 50 years, she also owned and operated Cobb's Beauty & Barber Supply, The Unique Boutique, and the Kozy Korner Cafe. She was one of the first black Girl Scout leaders in the area, a Civil Rights and Community Activist and a Duchess of Paducah.
She was preceded in death by her parents, A.A. and Inez Cobb, her husband Jessie James Walter McCorry, Sr., a step-son, Dr. Jessie James Walter McCorry, Jr., a grandson, Liban Quassim Aubkar, Jr., a sister Elizabeth Jean Russell and three brothers, Ben Cobb, Clarence Cobb and Oliver (Sam) Cobb.
Cherishing her memories are four daughters, Stephanie McCorry, Dallas, TX; Janice McCorry Butler, Paducah, KY; Rhonda (Terry) Smith, new Concord, KY and Wynea (Willie) Allen, jersey City, NJ; one step-son, Colonel Terry (Dee) McCorry, Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donnie Glenn, Suisun, CA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 6, 2015, 1:00 p.m. at th eGReater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Alfred Anderson and Reverend James H. Vinson officiating.
