Services for Maggie L. Newbern, 79, of Conyers, Ga., formerly of Paducah, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Calvin Cole Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Newbern died at 4:46 p.m. Sunday at the home of her daughter, Maxine Bailey of Conyers.
She was a member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church, where she formerly served as church clerk and sang in the church choir. Mrs. Newbern attended Murray State University. She was a Head Start teacher at the former Northside School and was retired from the Riverwood Group Home.
Besides her daughter, she is survived by one son, Curtis C. Newbern II of Paducah; three other daughters, Cynthia Newbern of Paducah, Judy Elaine Adams of Mobile, Ala., and Kathy R. Turnley of Conyers; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one aunt; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Curtis C. Newbern Sr., and one grandson. Her parents were Fred D. and Lola Johnson.
Friends may call after 6 this evening at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home and after 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
