MAYFIELD - Margaret Thompson Gates, 101, of Mayfield, Ky., formerly of Paducah, Ky., passed away at 12:20 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Mills Manor Nursing Home in Mayfield, Ky.
Margaret was a retired Secretary for McCracken County Judge Roy Stewart for many years, the McCracken County Property Valuation Administration Office, and was a receptionist for Roth Funeral Chapel. She was the oldest member of Margaret Hank Memorial Cumberland Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Margaret was a member of the Western Baptist Hospital Auxiliary with 30 plus years of service. She was awarded the Kentucky Colonel and Duchess of Paducah on her 100th birthday.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jean Gates Hendley and husband, Edward L. Hendley, of Mayfield, Ky.; granddaughter, Kimberely Dunaway of Louisville, Ky.; great-granddaughter, Gates Irene Dunaway of Louisville, Ky.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Overn Gates. Her parents were Will Thompson and Irene Coleman Roseborough.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, October 15, 2010, at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Chris Fleming officiating. Burial will follow in the Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
