Martha Jane Smith Waltmon was promoted to Glory to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on November 30, 2007, at 7:23 a.m. Services will be held at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007, and conducted by Tim Stonecipher. Visitation will be Sunday, December 2, 2007, from 5-8 p.m.
She was born to Joe, Jr. and Mary Lou Smith on September 21, 1947, at Riverside Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. She graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School in 1965. She was a 38-year employee of LECORP, Inc. where she was part owner in the company, served as Secretary of the corporation, with a job title of Sales and Engineering Assistant. Prior to that she was employed by Claussner Hosiery, later known as Indian Head Hosiery.
She was a Christian, member of the Body of Christ Church, actively involved with Grace Bible Church, where she served as organist. Prior to that she was an active member of West End Baptist Church where she served as organist and pianist.
Jane was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, McCracken County Humane Society, Carson Center, ASPCA, and Paducah 600 Bowling Club. She won the State Singles Bowling Tournament.
She was a devoted and loving daughter, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by her family.
She was predeceased by her father, Joe Smith, Jr. and her aunt, Evelyn Cummins, for whom she cared in their later years.
She leaves behind to be seen again in Glory two sons, Ronald David Hobbs, wife Trisha, granddaughter Leslie Michelle Hobbs, and grandson, Brandon Alexander Hobbs of Shelbyville, Kentucky; Jonathan Thomas Hobbs, wife Jeannette, granddaughters Lauren Ashlea Hobbs, Peyton Mekenzie Hobbs, Kaitlyn Francesca Hobbs, her mother, Mary Lou Smith, and stepgrandsons Ricky Levering and Vinnie Levering all of Paducah.
Also surviving are a brother, Joe Edd Smith and wife Linda of Stone Mountain, Georgia; niece Susan Elizabeth Smith also of Stone Mountain; and Kristopher Bradley Smith of Greer, South Carolina; a sister, Mary Jo Smith of Ashland City, Tennessee; and niece Lori Ann Vrbsky and husband Gary, children Casey and Garrett of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, Jane requests that memorials be made to Grace Bible Church, 2020 Natchez Lane, Paducah, KY 42001; or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 7100, Paducah, KY 42002-7100, specifically noted for breast cancer research.
