Services for Mary Anna Pool Monroe, 82, of Paducah will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, at St. Paul Lutheran Church with Pastor Corey Aker and Pastor Paul Donner officiating. Burial will be at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Monroe died at 7:53 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2007, at Southgate Health Center in Metropolis, Ill.
She was a member of the American Association of Registered Nurses, American Association of Operating Room Nurses, American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Paducah Symphony League, Paducah Matinee Music Club, Lutheran Layman's League, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Bethesda Lutheran Home Association and Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing. Mrs. Monroe was an assistant of the St. Louis School of Nursing, a former member of the American Red Cross, a Kentucky Colonel, former Operating Supervisor of Illinois Central Hospital, and Last Field of Employment Occupational Health Nurse at Union Carbide. She was former president of 5th District Nurses Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Nurses Association. Mrs. Monroe was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Dorcas Circle and The Altar Guild. She designed and constructed the altar Paraments, Communion Linens and Banners. Mrs. Monroe was active in the Chrismon Program and Construction of Religious Chrismon Ornaments. She donated to and was very active in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League and in their Education Programs.
Surviving are three brothers, Ivan Pool of Paducah, the Rev. Charles Pool of Spring Lick, Mich., and the Rev. John Pool of Wichita, Kan.; one sister, Martha Pool Chael of Kansas City, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodford L. "Monk" Monroe. Her parents were Ivan Lewis Pool and Anna Hilke Pool.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Roth Funeral Chapel, and after 9 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2007, at the church.
Pallbearers will be Siro Pandolfi, Charles Hagler, Earl Metcalf, Bob Mahan, Bill Switzer and Carl Walter. Her nephews will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
