Mattie Cousins

March 3, 1932 — January 24, 2011

Mattie E. Cousins of Paducah, 78, died at 2:20 p.m. Monday at Medco Nursing Center of Paducah.

She was a member of Mount Olive Freewill Baptist Church, where she served as an usher and on the Culinary Arts Committee. She was also a member of the Interdenominational Union Ushers. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force.

She was preceded in death her parents, Willie Edward Higgins Sr., and Roberta Carter Higgins; her husband, Floyd Aaron Cousins; seven brothers; and one sister.

She is survived by two daughters, Donna J. Jackson and Michelle D. Cousins, both of Paducah; four sisters, Velma Brown of Evansville, Ind., and Claudia Hay, Rachel Bowman and Pearl Banks, all of Henderson; one brother, James Higgins of Downey, Calif.; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be at noon Saturday at Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church in Paducah with the Revs. Alfred Anderson and Donnie Duncan officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at Pettus-Rowland Funeral Home in Paducah.
