Mattie C. Woods’ life began at her birth here on earth on August 9, 1937, in West Paducah, Kentucky. On Sunday, October 3, 2021, after having lived for 84 years, 1 month and 24 days, Mattie’s life came to its end at 11:24 a.m. in Stonecreek Health and Rehabilitation Center of Paducah .
Mattie was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the former Freewill Baptist Church where she had faithfully and with great pride served as an usher. She was also a member of the Unique Savings and Sewing Club. Mattie always loved playing bingo. She was quite the cook, especially in baking her cakes and pies and making her famous chicken and dressing. Everyone could depend on “Mattie” to watch after their children because she was one who was a mother to all neighborhood children.
Mattie leaves both family and friends to mourn her loss. Among them are: Three Sons, Vanel (Pam) Woods and Donald Woods, both of Paducah, KY and Calvin (Ann) Smith of Nashville, TN; Four Daughters, Martha Louise Waldon and Margaret Smith, both of Louisville, KY, Harriett (Mark) Hamilton and Cotrena Chunn, both of Paducah, KY; One Goddaughter, Glenda Waldon Davis of West Paducah, KY; One Godson, Marvin Waldon of West Paducah, KY; 15 Grandchildren, 34 Great-Grandchildren, 11 Great Great-Grandchildren & 2 Great Great Great-Grandchildren; Three Sisters, Elnora (Ike) Stevenson and Connie Moss, both of Paducah, KY and Lena Mae Stanford of Louisville, KY; One Brother, Harrison George of Paducah, KY; One Devoted Special Friend, Marshall Weatherspoon of Paducah, KY; a host of Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and Friends.
Mattie was preceded in death by her mother, Rozelle Woods George; two sons, Winfred “Fuzzy” Earl Woods and Billy Woods; five brothers, Charlie George, Johnny George, Lee Woods, William George and Joe Lewis George; one sister, Rosie Nance; one granddaughter, Tawanna Moss; two grandsons, James Marshall Chunn and Artavius Chunn
A funeral service has been scheduled for Saturday, October 9, 2021, 12:00 Noon, at Greater Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church with Reverend Alfred Anderson and Reverend Michael Wade officiating. Burial will follow in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Friends may also call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour.
All attendees are required to wear masks.
