Michael Vernon Callis passed away on October 14, 2008, in the Land between the Lakes.
Michael was 56 years of age, born 12 July 1952 in Berlin, Germany, where his parents were stationed. Michael has been a Grower/Manager in the retail and wholesale nursery business for over thirty years in California, Long Island, N.Y., North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Texas.
Michael is survived by his wife of 34 years, Claudia Lynn Armstrong-Callis, currently a resident of Abingden, Maryland. Michael and Claudia had two children, Jessica Anne Callis-Bratcher of Mt. Washington, Ky., and Christopher Michael Callis, also of Mt. Washington, Ky. Michael is also survived by his parents, Ltc. (ret) Bennie and Norma Lee Fenn-Callis, currently residing in Woodland, Calif., and formerly of Paducah. Michael had a brother, Aaron Scott Callis of Fair Oaks, Calif., and two sisters, Benita Lee Callis-Lanahan of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Vanessa I. Callis-Burke of Folsom, Calif. A sister, Patricia Mae Callis-Sommer, passed away in January 1998.
Claudia's parents are Robert Don and Joan Marshalls Van Scoyk-Armstrong of Abingden, Md. Michael is also survived by four nieces, Lindsey Callis, Jennifer Callis, Hannah Burke and Katherine Lanahan, and one nephew, Austin John Burke, all of the Sacramento, Calif., area.
Michael's grandparents were Jesse Vernon and Bertha Mae Fondaw-Callis and Joseph and Cleo Mae Shriber-Fenn. The grandparents are former residents of Paducah.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
