Richard (Dick) E. Sears, 92, of Everett, Wash., passed away on March 25, 2008, at his daughter Jane's home in Everett. Dick was a native and long time resident of Paducah before moving to Everett in 2002. He retired from Shawnee Steam Plant as Electrical Maintenance Supervisor in 1976 after working 37 years with TVA. Mr. Sears graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1938 with an electrical engineering degree, and started with TVA in 1939 as construction began on Kentucky Dam. Mr. Sears was a faithful member of Broadway United Methodist Church of Paducah for over 50 years, serving most of that time as a choir member. In 1978 he was named a Duke of Paducah. In retirement, Dick became very active in ham radio and devoted many hours to the Paducah Amateur Radio Association and would like to pay tribute to his "Romeo" friends who he has not seen in several years.
Surviving are two sons, J. Michael Sears of Mentor, Ohio, and David R. Sears of Houston; two daughters, Jane A. Sears Navin of Everett, and Paula M. Sears of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Sears of Mentor, Bradley Sears of Denver, Jonathan Sears of Austin, Texas, Thomas Navin of Everett, and Erin Navin Gund of Las Vegas; and great-granddaughter, Katie Navin of Everett.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Mary Margaret Smith Sears; his second wife, Meda Ryan Sears; and two sons, Joseph E. Sears and Thomas R. Sears. His parents were Edward and Cora Herzog Sears.
Funeral services for Mr. Sears will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 3, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah. Rev. Robert Fejes will officiate. Friends may call after 5 p.m. on Thursday. Private burial will be held on Friday at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
