Shirley M. Shimkus, 82, of Paducah passed away at 10:20 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2010, at Parkview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She attended Salt and Light Community Church and was the retired owner and operator of Shirley's Tavern, which she ran for 40 years.
Mrs. Shimkus is survived by two daughters, Lisa Suiter and husband Lindy of Murray, Ky., and Brenda Shimkus Dodd and husband Mark of Paducah; one son, Mike Shimkus and wife Kathy of Paducah; five grandchildren, Josh Shimkus, Ashley Roland, Katie Shimkus, Daniel Dodd and Lakin Suiter; four great-grandchildren, Reed and Kaylee Roland and Ava and Mya Shimkus; two sisters, Sondra "Sue" Alexander of Calvert City, Ky., and Judy Whalen Hayes of Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Shimkus, and three sisters, Mary Nell Guerrero, Joan Cook and Dorthy Lawson. Her parents were Grover and Evelyn Baynes Harvey.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Jim Glover officiating. Burial will follow at Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the service hour of 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
