Vernon Eugene "Gene" Spees, 74 of Lone Oak died at 6:40 a.m. Dec. 17, 2007, at his residence.
Mr. Spees was a retired general agent for the railroad with 43 years of service. He was a member, elder and Sunday school teacher at Woodlawn Cumberland Presbyterian Church, a member and past state vice president of The Woodman of the World, and served on the board of directors for The Paducah Federal Credit Union for 21 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel and Duke of Paducah.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, June Ransom Spees; three sons, Phil (Therese) Spees, Stan (Cindy) Spees and Greg (Robbie) Spees, all of Paducah; five grandchildren: Andrea (Charley) Poat, Corey Spees, Robert Spees, Jane Spees and Monica Spees; a great-grandchild, Kailey Poat; a stepgranddaughter, Shanna Johann; and two step-great-grandchildren, Isiah Johann and Emma Johann; and two nieces.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Susie Spees; and a brother, Earlie Spees. His parents were Hanley Vernon Spees and Bertha Holmes Spees.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home. The Rev. Terry Vasseur and Todd Belt will officiate. Burial will be in Maplelawn Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Lone Oak Chapel Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
