Graveside services with military honors for William E. Atkinson, 79, of Paducah will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2007, at Maplelawn Park Cemetery with the Rev. Steve Gorham officiating.
Mr. Atkinson died at 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2007, at Lourdes hospital.
A native of Paducah, he retired with 27 years of service with the Paducah City Police Department as Assistant Chief of Police. Mr. Atkinson was a member of Broadway Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Charlene Preuett Atkinson; two sons, Kit Atkinson and fiancee, Lisa Canter, of West Paducah and Zane (Sandra) Atkinson of West Paducah; one sister, Sue Dale (Rodney) Wood of West Paducah; two grandchildren, Heidi Atkinson and Holly Atkinson, both of West Paducah; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene White. His parents were Dale and Katherine Angle White.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah.
